Distrust in medicine and medical systems did not arise from simple assumptions and a few negative interactions with providers and healthcare facilities. A historic narrative exists documenting significant events and enduring seasons across time in which people of color were mistreated, untreated, misdiagnosed, over-diagnosed and under-diagnosed which has led to negative outcomes along with suspicion and a lack of faith in the medical system. This webinar aims to discuss some of those pivotal events as well as important moments in research that have shaped medicine and mental wellness. The value of research will be highlighted with special attention given to data and its influence on treatment/interventions, and access to quality care ultimately resulting in better outcomes and healthier coping.
