  3. ADHD Online Group Therapy (Washington Residents only)
New Perceptions Counseling PLLC
Address:
98110
Description:

We are a weekly group for affordable treatment of Adult ADHD (VAST), which includes psychoeducation about the ins and outs of ADHD diagnosis and livability, as well as hands-on application of tools/techniques/systems for maneuvering in our individual lives, AND the added benefit of peer support through understanding our own unique ADHD traits in seeing our similarities and differences in comparison to fellow ADHD brains.

We are Neurodivergent Affirming which means we aim to create a safe and welcoming environment for neurodivergent(ND) people: presume competence in our clients, strive for and promote our client’s autonomy, respect all communication styles, are informed by ND voices, use a strengths based approach, honor ND culture, and tailor therapy to each client’s individual needs. We do not aim to ‘cure’, reverse or treat away someone’s ND diagnosis, instead we aim to increase our client’s freedom to engage in their life authentically and with agency & dignity.

ADHD group therapy is a therapeutic approach where clients meet regularly to learn more about their diagnosis, learn tools for managing the ups and downs, connect with others with shared experiences, all within a safe therapeutic space guided by a trained therapist. This type of setting fosters a sense of belonging and connection for group members which in turn encourages interpersonal growth and gained emotional awareness.

This group is a weekly online group for affordable treatment of Adult ADHD (VAST), which includes psychoeducation about the ins and outs of ADHD diagnosis and livability, as well as hands-on application of tools/techniques/systems for maneuvering in our individual lives, AND the added benefit of peer support through understanding our own unique ADHD traits in seeing our similarities and differences in comparison to fellow ADHD brains.

We will be meeting 4 weeks out of the month. We will alternate our focus of the week between learning weeks and application/growth weeks. This gives us all a good 2 weeks between goal-setting sessions to try out new ways of thinking or tools learning in session.

Some of the topics we will have include: Understanding your Dx; Sensory Needs; Overstimulation & Sensory Need Assessment; Self-Care; Time & Planning; Emotion Regulation; relationships; Organization; Hyperactivity; & Brain and Body Health.

For example here is what Fall 2024 will look like

Aug / September October November December
8/ 19 Getting to know the group, expectations & Culture 7 Learning  4 Learning  2 Learning
8/ 26 14 Apply & Grow 11 Apply & Grow 9 Apply & Grow
9/ 16 21 Learning  18 Learning  16 Apply & Grow
9/ 23 28 Apply & Grow 25 Apply & Grow 23 (holiday break)
9/ 30 30 (holiday break)

Because this group is billable to insurance we are also able to keep a cash-pay rate for a low $25 per 1.5 hour session. That’s only $100 a month. We are able to bill the following insurance providers:

  • Aetna
  • BlueCross and BlueShield
  • Cigna and Evernorth
  • First Choice Health | FCH
  • LifeWise
  • Medicare
  • Premera
  • Regence
  • Uniform | UMP

Because of the focused nature of the group on ADHD learning, application and growth, attendance in Group therapy is often very complimentary to any current individual therapy you may be getting support from simultaneously. The knowledge and gained skills you will get from this group will in turn alleviate and help the unique therapeutic goals you have with your other therapist

Group sessions will include some personal disclosure, but we do not do in depth ‘intake assessments’ in the group setting like you would with an individual therapist. This means that to some extent you are in control of what you get out of the group. What you put in is what you get out.

That said, if life is increasingly complicated right now and your struggles go beyond concerns about ADHD you may want to consider looking for a space to apply what you are learning from these Group Therapy sessions, and find an individual therapist to verbally process things and level up your growth and learning. If you need help finding a therapist let us know and we can get you some resources. You can also submit a contact information form on our clinic website (or find my profile here on add.org) to schedule a consultation with Laural (who is accepting new clients) or another one of our therapists in our clinic who are accepting new clients.
